Delivered to NIOT, Chennai in 2019, Sagar Anveshika was the first coastal research vessel ever constructed by a private Indian shipyard.
Sagar Anveshika was built for NIOT, Chennai, and delivered in 2019, becoming India's first privately built Ocean Research Vessel. The vessel was exhibited at the 12th Presidential Fleet Review, a marker of its place within India's ocean research fleet.
Construction took place at the Titagarh Yard in North Kolkata, where the programme pushed TNSL to develop specialised marine systems in-house rather than source them off the shelf. The drop keel and dynamic positioning work done for Sagar Anveshika did not stop at delivery; it went on to inform the in-house systems now fitted to the Coastal Research Vessels under construction for the Geological Survey of India.
